After a car wreck that crushed my face, Dr Rickman spent several years putting me back together again. I could never thank him and his staff enough for everything they did!
First off, the staff in Dr. Rickman's office are all lovely and sweet. I can't say enough good things about them. Dr. Rickman himself, however, is very rude and inconsiderate to his patients. My daughter was diagnosed with a stage 4 lip tie (no tongue tie) that is hindering nursing. Dr. Rickman looked at it and told me he'd clip it, so we made an appointment and came into the office for the procedure. Dr. Rickman then proceded to come into our room and instead of explaining the procedure to us parents and making sure we understood what was going to happen, he went ahead and clipped my daughter's TONGUE frenulum. He then refused to clip her lip and basically called me a liar when I told him he miscommunicated. I am not a liar, Dr. Rickman just doesn't know he should clarify the difference between a FRENULUM under the tongue and a FRENULUM under the lip when there are scissors involved. And that clarification is even more important when you are going to revise something the patient didn't even come in for. I was also told by Dr. Rickman that a lip tie does not affect breastfeeding and that clipping a lip tie could cause gapped teeth in the future. I am not an idiot that stepped into this decision to have the tie clipped lightly, I have done my research and know that lip ties actually cause gapped teeth in some children (especially class 4) and they most definitely cause latch issues (according to the Le Leche League)! If this man has never done any research on how a tie affects breastfeeding then he needs to keep his uneducated opinions (and his scissors)to himself!
